In a time of economic uncertainty among US citizens, the claim that the federal government, through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Treasury Department, will soon issue a new $1,390 stimulus check has gone viral. This alleged payment would be aimed at low- and middle-income taxpayers, leading many to wonder if they will really receive financial relief later this summer.
Rumors and hopes among residents were heightened by a bill introduced by Senator Josh Hawley that proposes tax rebates. With this, thousands of citizens are hoping that it will be confirmed so that they can receive financial relief, however, this may not happen.
What does the $1,390 stimulus payment project consist of?
Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri introduced the bill a month ago that would send a tax rebate to qualified taxpayers. The funds would be through revenues from tariffs instituted by President Donald Trump and it was hoped that it could soon be passed.
Hawley, via a statement, said that citizens "deserve a tax refund" and installed uncertainty and excitement among people about this new bill.
Will there be a $1,390 stimulus payment?
To date, Congress has not passed any legislation to authorize a new stimulus payment, making rumors of an imminent $1,390 check unfounded.
The AP reported that an IRS official explained that there are no plans for new stimulus payments and that if there are proposals, they must be approved by Congress and distributed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, something that has not happened at this time.
