A farmer from the department of Antioquia, in Colombia, has made a discovery that seems straight out of a movie: while carrying out agricultural work on his farm, he discovered 600 million dollars in cash buried, allegedly linked to the late Pablo Escobar.

According to local media reports, the discovery took place when the farmer, who prefers to remain anonymous for security reasons, was carrying out excavations to expand a cultivation area. It was then that he came across several rusty metal drums, buried more than a meter deep, inside which were hundreds of bundles of banknotes, mostly US dollars, perfectly preserved.

The Colombian authorities, after receiving notification of the discovery, immediately went to the site and opened an investigation to find out the exact origin of the money. The first hypotheses suggest that it would be part of the hiding places used by the Medellin cartel during the 80s and 90s to store large amounts of cash that could not be laundered or moved easily.

This is not the first time that Pablo Escobar's 'caletas' have been found. The drug trafficker himself ordered large amounts of money to be hidden on farms and in the jungle when his 'business' reached its peak. Many of these reserves were forgotten after his death in 1993.

The find has reignited interest in Pablo Escobar's mythical hidden treasures, although it has also raised concerns about the safety of the farmer and his family. The government is now considering whether to seize the $600 million or whether to give a reward to the farmer.
