- Indiana Fever. Fever coach drops blunt reaction after Sophie Cunningham injury as Kelsey Mitchell fuels stunning comeback
Caitlin Clark might be one of the most promising prospects the WNBA has seen in a while. She qualyfies as a potential MVP winner for the enxt seasons, as her recent injuries slowed her down this current season.
Instead of adding more fire to the debate, the Indiana Fever's still rookie put the light on another collegue she thinks deserves it.
After her team's dramatic victory over the Connecticut Sun by 99-93 in extra time, Clark backed her teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, as an MVP contender.
Clark, out of the field due to a groin injury, used social media to share her views after seeing Mitchell lead the Fever to a win. "She's our MVP," she wrote, thanking the veteran guard for keeping calm and prove her leadership skills.
Mitchell's big night and an open race
Mitchell had an amazing performance, scoring 38 points, with 34 in the second half of the game. She helped flip a 21-point loss to a win. Her key actions late in the game got her much praise and backed up Clark's good words to her.
Clark saying Mitchell could be MVP changes the odds of the MVP race. The league's new poll sees Napheesa Collier in the lead with 67% of votes, with A'ja Wilson next at 25%. Clark is actually third, but as said before, her on court time has been cut by some injuries.
Sites like Swish Appeal still see Collier and Wilson ahead, with Alyssa Thomas close too. Yet, Mitchell is now seen more likely to win after some really good games just now.
Team first, other stuff later
For Clark, pushing Mitchell shows her way up to greatness. She did not make the MVP conversations about her own unbelieveble first season but talked about how crucial teamwork is and how never giving up is the real ethic to work with.
The Fever, once a team wishing to become better, now looks like one of the top WNBA franchises. With Clark's outstanding performances, Mitchell's consistency in games, and an overall better team work, Indiana keeps moving up, and the MVP debate gets hotter as we approach the end of the season.
Fever's tough present
Currently the No. 3 team in the East, the Fever are dreaming on the possible return of Caitlin Clark before ending of the regular season. Their recent 99-93 overtime victory over the Connecticut Sun, fueled by Kelsey Mitchell's tremendous 38 points and Aliyah Boston's record 15th double-double, has given the team a key momentum they should not let go.
Now, all eyes are on whether Indiana can lock in their desired spot and carry that resilience into the playoffs.
