In a recent settlement, AT&T agreed to pay $177 million to settle class action lawsuits following a personal data breach in 2021.
This breach affected millions of customers and exposed sensitive information such as names, dates of birth and social security numbers.
Although AT&T did not admit legal responsibility, it agreed to compensate affected users, so if you were one of them, you could be eligible to receive up to $7,500 if you can prove that you suffered financial losses from this leak, or a basic payment without the need for additional documentation.
Who can file a claim?
To receive a payment, you must meet these criteria:
- Have been an AT&T customer or had an account with the company prior to January 2023.
- Be part of the group whose data was compromised in the 2021 data breach.
- You received a notification from AT&T or the settlement administrator (Kroll) about your eligibility.
If you're not sure if you're included, you can check your status on the official settlement website by providing your name and identification number included in the letter or email you received.
How much you could receive in available compensation
Eligible users could receive:
- Up to $7,500 if you can prove actual expenses caused by the leak (e.g. fraud, loss of funds, bank fees, etc.).
- A basic payment of up to $75 for time spent dealing with issues related to the leak, with no proof required.
- 12 months of free credit monitoring through the Experian service.
How to file a claim?
These are the steps to claim your compensation:
- Visit the official settlement website: www.ATTDataBreachSettlement.com
- Click on "Submit a claim."
- Enter the unique identification number you received by mail or email.
- Choose the type of compensation you wish to claim.
- Attach documentation if necessary (e.g. statements or loss reports).
- Submit the form before October 30, 2025.
- You can also send your claim by post, following the instructions on the official website.
Once the claim has been submitted, you will have to wait for the approval of the judge overseeing the case.
If all goes according to plan, payments could begin to be distributed in late 2025 or early 2026.
Although the amount varies, it is worth checking if you qualify and filing your claim, especially if you suffered financial inconvenience or stress from the incident.
If you haven't already, check your email for a notification from AT&T and act before October 30, 2025.
